T-Mobile Drives NBA All-Star Voting

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

T-Mobile is helping to push National Basketball Association All-Star balloting as primary sponsor with ballots at its retail stores, and a sweepstakes to win a trip to the game.

Fans can fill out T-Mobile All-Star ballots and drop them in ballot boxes at 1,500 T-Mobile locations nationwide. They can also vote with mobile phones at t-zones, on T-Mobile phones or at wap.nba.com on any wireless carrier.

T-Mobile is running a “Vote for Your Faves” sweeps, offering fans a chance to bring five friends to the game. Casting a ballot at a T-Mobile store or at a t-zone enables entry for the sweeps. Secondary prizes include a selection of NBA merchandise.

T-Mobile will donate $1 for each ballot cast in its retail stores or on t-zones to the New Orleans Recovery School District. It’s part of an NBA Cares initiative to support the Crescent City, which will host the game at the New Orleans arena on Feb. 17.

The wireless carrier is also title sponsor for the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam on Feb. 14, among the fan festival events leading up to the All-Star tilt.

NBA All-Star voting on paper ballots concludes on Jan. 13, with voting on NBA.com continuing through Jan. 20. This year the NBA site will feature a “widget” to enable voting that fans can place on their blogs, social network pages or personal web sites.

As a secondary sponsor, video game maker 2K Sports is running a sweepstakes offering a chance to win a trip to the All-Star game and a place in next year’s “NBA 2K9” game as a digitized player. The grand prize in the sweeps also includes a shopping spree from video game retailer GameStop, which is promoting balloting with P-O-P material at its 4,800 stores.
