Hasbro, Chuck E. Cheese Celebrate Play-Doh’s 50th Birthday

The iconic Play-Doh brand is 50 years strong and toymaker Hasbro is teaming up with Chuck E. Cheese to celebrate the milestone via an instant-win game.

Starting Sept. 14, consumers who visit any of the 493 Chuck E. Cheese restaurants in the U.S. will get a chance to win a host of prizes, including a trip to Jamaica.

Hasbro will brand more than 1.8 million packages of Play-Doh four-packs with a Chuck E. Cheese coupon for 10 free game tokens worth $2.50 with a food purchase at Chuck E. Cheese restaurants. Consumers who redeem the coupon for game tokens can use their tokens on Chuck E. Cheese games to earn tickets. Players can then redeem their tickets at the restaurant for a two-ounce can of Play-Doh. For each can of Play-Doh redeemed, consumers will get an instant-win game piece. Every game piece is a winner.

“Twenty-million kids celebrate their birthday at Chuck E. Cheeses each year and it’s a great way for Hasbro to kick-off the celebration of Play-Doh’s 50th birthday, which we will be celebrating in 2006,” said Angie Salem, director of marketing, creative play for Hasbro. “The Play-Doh 50th was a perfect time to celebrate a very long-standing relationship with Chuck E. Cheese.”

The grand-prize winner will receive a family vacation for four to Jamaica valued at $5,000; 50 second-prize winners will get Play-Doh birthday parties for 12 at Chuck E. Cheese. The sweepstakes will award 50 third-prize winners with $50 online gift cards to Hasbrotoyshop.com. Lesser prizes include Chuck E. Cheese T-shirts, Play-Doh playsets and Chuck E. Cheese game tokens.
