AT&T Brings Text Messaging to McDonald’s and Kellogg’s

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Following the huge success of American Idol text message voting, AT&T Wireless has brought the mobile phone technology to both McDonald’s and Kellogg’s for two promotions starting this summer.

Beginning this week, more than 250 million McD’s food bags will carry an Olympic-related trivia game that is offered exclusively to AT&T Wireless customers who can use text messaging to answer the questions. Participants can respond to the questions printed on the bags by sending a text message to the number 2004 with the corresponding letter choice in the body of the message.

Unlike other promotional games with multiple entry options, the only way for consumers to play the Olympic Trivia game is via AT&T Wireless text messaging service. Standard text messaging rates apply.

In another promotion, AT&T Wireless has launched an on-package text messaging promo to appear on Kellogg’s boxes nationwide. Beginning this month, approximately 80 million Kellogg’s cereal and snack boxes will feature a sweepstakes or a Cartoon Network text messaging trivia game. AT&T Wireless customers can instantly use the text message feature on their wireless phones to enter the sweeps or play the trivia.

AT&T Wireless customers can text their sweepstakes entry by sending the word “win” to the number 9292 between now and Sept. 5, 2005. A maximum of 15 text entries per day may be sent by each customer, other consumers can enter at www.eetandern.com/. The grand-prize winner will win a Mazda MPV Minivan customized to resemble the Scooby Doo Mystery Machine.

Subscribers may also play the Cartoon Network game that appears on cereal and snack boxes by sending the word “play” to the number 8282. Cartoon Network developed the trivia questions about characters including Scooby Doo, Powerpuff Girls, Dexter’s Laboratory and Ed, Edd, n’ Eddy. Standard text messaging rates apply.
