Text Messaging Will Decide Ending to WB’s One Tree Hill
Cingular Wireless and the WB Network have teamed up to give consumers a shot at a director’s role. Under a new promotion, One Tree Hill fans can choose the ending of an upcoming episode via text messaging.
Growing in popularity, fans can decide how a TV show should end by sending a text message on their Cingular Wireless phones. Fans of WB’s One Tree Hil must decide whether Nathan should kiss his sister-in-law, Taylor, while his wife, Haley, performs on a rock music tour. The cliffhanger episode aired last night.
To help decide the outcome, viewers can text message the word “uDecide” to 7425 on their Cingular Wireless phones through April 22. Consumers will receive a ballot on their wireless phones and can reply by choosing A or B to place their vote. The ending with the most votes will air at 9 p.m. ET on April 26 on the WB Network.
Each time viewers vote via text messaging, they will be entered into Cingular’s uDecide sweepstakes, which offers a grand-prize trip to Wilmington, NC, to visit the set of One Tree Hill and receive a new Cingular Wireless Motorola B551 video phone and a $500 Cingular Wireless gift card. The sweepstakes is open to consumers 16 and older.
The promotion lets Cingular Wireless tap into the show’s fan base (consumers 18 to 34) and “gives customers a unique opportunity to have a deeper relationship with the show,” said Liz Dinnsen, senior media manager for Cingular Wireless.
“We try to incorporate text messaging or other data elements…in a lot of the bigger things that we do,” Dinnsen said. “Cingular customers are the only ones that get to participate. We think it’s a great opportunity.”

Cingular Wireless customers can also access One Tree Hill content at RUCingular.com/onetreehill, including ringtones and show updates. Last month, Cingular Wireless ran a separate promotion, which awarded three fans a chance to text chat with three cast members from One Tree Hill.
