Subaru Shows Student Trailers at Latino Film Festival

Subaru of America, Inc. is making sure that its appearance at the International Latino Film Festival (ILFF) in November is no cameo.

The automaker plans to activate around the San Francisco Bay Area festival showcasing Subaru trailers that tout its 2007 Subaru Tribeca at more than 70 screenings at movie theaters, community venues and university campuses. The trailers were produced as part of the festival’s Youth in Video Program designed to inspire and teach the art of filmmaking to youth from minority and underserved communities.

From Nov. 3-19, the trailers will roll before each screening, as well as during the 2007 festival year.

In addition, a sneak preview of the Subaru trailers and the behind-the-scenes footage will be screened at the Pier 39 Theater during the Subaru sponsored Viva Las Americas event celebration scheduled for Sept. 16. Other Viva Las Americas sponsors include Coca-Cola, Western Union and Expedia.com.

More than 20 students from diverse backgrounds in San Francisco counties came together to produce the two original short films for Subaru. Students shot, edited and created original music for each trailer.

“This event is a good fit for Subaru as our customers report that enjoying films, theatre and other cultural events are among their favorite activities and top interests,” said Jim Pernas, regional VP-Subaru Northwest region in a statement. “We also look forward to showcasing the work of the talented young people that produced the Subaru trailers through the Youth in Video Program this year.”

Cherry Hill, NJ-based Subaru is the presenting and official automotive sponsor of the 10th ILFF. The festival began in 1997 with eight films in one location and has since grown to as many as 70 film screenings annually in 16 venues throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
