Showtime Taps Fans Via Fanisode Competition
Showtime Networks is extending viewership of its hit show The L Word with a new competition inviting viewers to write original scenes for the series.
For the first time in the show’s history, fans can submit short scenes online to LwordFanisode.com based on a “scene mission” provided by the show’s writing team. Once consumers send their written scenes, or “fanisodes,” the online community votes. At the end of each week, the most popular fan-submitted scene will be added to the script in progress.
“By creating this ‘fanisode,’ viewers of The L Word have a golden opportunity to interact with the characters that they’ve grown to love in a new and exciting way,” said Chris Williams, co-creator of FanLib, in a statement.
Participants, including writers and consumers who vote, will have the chance to win prizes as part of the promotion. Prizes include a private, online mentoring session with one of The L Word writers, wardrobe from the show, an autographed script, DVDs, shopping sprees at Saks.com and jewelry.
Showtime Networks is teaming up with FanLib, an entertainment, technology and marketing solutions provider, as part of the promotion.
At the end of the competition, Showtime and FanLib will publish a free e-zine— downloadable digital magazine featuring the completed script, including alternative scenes and editorial features profiling winning contributors and other participants. The digital magazine will be distributed online to all participants and voters.
The L Word details the story about the lives and loves of a group of lesbian friends living in Los Angeles. The series, which is in its third season, airs at 10 p.m. ET on Showtime.
The promotion runs through March 31. Online materials support.
