NHL, New Line Team For Just Friends Promo

New Line Cinema and the National Hockey League are rolling out a series of in-arena promotions around the upcoming film Just Friends, touting a sweepstakes for a chance to win tickets to the 2006 NHL Stanley Cup Finals with one of the movie’s co-stars.

During the three-week promotion, hockey-themed clips from the film will air on Jumbotrons, directing fans to enter the Just Friends/NHL Stanley Cup sweepstakes online at NHL.com/justfriends.

One grand-prize winner gets a trip for two to one of four NHL Stanley Cup Final games, hotel accommodations and transportation to and from the game. Three second-prize winners get a merchandise prize pack of the winner’s team of choice.

As part of the promotion, Just Friends co-star Chris Klein will attend the Nov. 17 game between the Vancouver Canucks and the Los Angeles Kings at the Staples Center. In addition, 13 NHL teams will participate in the Just Friends promotion, hosting Just Friends-themed game nights and giveaways, including movie passes, soundtracks, $100 gift certificates to sporting goods stores and music downloads.

Participating teams include the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Boston Bruins, Buffalo sabers, Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue jackets, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wilds, Philadelphia Flyers, Phoenix Coyotes, Tampa Bay Lightning and Vancouver Canucks.

Just Friends is a romantic comedy about high school geek Chris Brander, who is head-over-heels in love with his best friend, Jamie Palomino. Oblivious to his feelings. Jamie uses Chris as an emotional crutch and thinks of him as “just a friend.” Ten years later, Chris becomes a successful executive and bumps into Jamie. Realizing he’s still in love with her, Chris reverts back to his high school geek persona as he tries to win Jamie over. Just Friends opens nationwide on Nov. 23.

The sweepstakes, open to consumers 15 and older, runs through Dec. 1. Online materials support.
