EBay Hides Cash for Treasure Hunt

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

EBay members take the back roads in an online treasure hunt dangling as much as $225,000 in prizes.

Hidden prizes drive traffic

The Feb. 16-23 Treasure Hunt combines an instant-win game and a sweepstakes to drive site traffic and activities.

Each day, eBay seeds 25 $1,000 prizes in listings across eBay.com and eBayMotors.com. Players solve clues posted on the site to decipher search words that will unearth the cash prizes. (If the clue is “apple pie,” think “motherhood”—then do a search on “maternity dress.”)

Hidden prizes are listed until they’re found, or until the weeklong promo ends. The 25 prizes seeded on Feb. 21 are worth $2,000 each.

Meanwhile, consumers get automatic entry into a separate Treasure Hunt sweeps each time they list, bid or buy an item. The grand prize is $25,000 and a lifetime “featured” eBay Store subscription. Marden-Kane, Manhasset, NY, handles.
