Denny’s Fights the Stay-cation with Resort Sweepstakes

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

To counter an economy that has lots of its customer base vacationing in the backyard this year, casual chain Denny’s will give away 42 Caribbean vacations in a contest that ties store visits to an online instant-win game.

Under the terms of the Grand Slam Bahamas Vacation Getaway, launched on Tuesday and continuing through August 31, Denny’s customers will be told by servers that ordering an entrée and adding a signature menu item will get them a scratch-off card containing an access code. Once revealed, the code can be entered at a microsite where users can find out if they’ve been selected by the random prize generator to win one of 42 Nassau vacation stays.

Menu items customers can add to their entrees to qualify for the Grand Slam Bahamas game include Denny’s signature beverages, soup, salad, dessert or pancake puppies , battered dipping sticks with syrup.

The online promotion will give winners a 6-day, 5-night stay for two at the Wyndham Nassau Resort & Crystal Palace Casino, together with money for the casino and two rounds of golf.

Interestingly, Denny’s servers will also be eligible for a Caribbean getaway. In each of the chain’s 1,500 locations, the eight servers who sell the largest number of featured menu items during the campaign will be entered into a random drawing for eight more Nassau vacations. Servers who don’t win those prize trips will qualify to win one of eight iPod Shuffles, 20 $50 Walmart gift cards or 40 Coca-Cola branded items.

Besides the online game, participating Denny’s customers can also use their scratch-off cards to play an instant-win free food game. Winners can redeem their food prizes—ranging from free Coca-Cola soft drinks or coffee to free Grand Slam breakfasts—on a subsequent visit.

“The Denny’s Grand Slam Bahamas Vacation Getaway is a win-win for us, our customers and our employees,” Denny’s CMO Mark Chmiel said in a release. “We are committed to making sure Denny’s visitors have an enriching experience and our employees know that they are valued. This event is the perfect opportunity to accomplish both goals.”
