CompUSA Scores CBS Sports and NCAA Partnership

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

CompUSA announced last week that it has teamed up with CBS Sports to become an official National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) corporate partner.

The agreement gives CompUSA marketing rights to 88 annual NCAA championships, the best of 23 sports, held in more than 700 locations across the U.S.

A media package on CBS Sports for NCAA March Madness, NCAA Football and other NCAA-related programming and an Internet presence on NCAAsports.com are included in the agreement. Financial terms were not disclosed.

“Partnering with CBS Sports and the NCAA puts CompUSA among a group of outstanding corporate partners,” said Larry Mondry, president and CEO of CompUSA in a statement. “It also provides a great opportunity to demonstrate CompUSA’s ongoing commitment to student-athletes and higher education. We look forward to working with CBS Sports, the NCAA and its partners to advance the pursuit of excellence in academics and athletics.”

The Dallas, TX-based technology products retailer is leveraging the partnership with its first March Madness promotion. The program gives consumers a chance to win a grand-prize trip for two to the 2007 NCAA Men’s Final Four at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Other prizes include trips for two to the 2006 NCAA Men’s Final Four in Indianapolis, IN, high-definition televisions and CompUSA Gift Cards valued between $25 and $100. Consumers can visit Compusa.com/ncaa to enter. The promotion ends April 1, with drawings on April 30.

“March is an electrifying time for NCAA basketball fans and now technology lovers can get in the game, too,” Mondry said. “Partnering with the NCAA has allowed us to blend CompUSA’s customer-base of technology lovers with sports fans. We’re very excited to help CompUSA customers unleash the power of technology during the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships.”

National advertising including radio spots and local market initiatives where tournament games are held will support the promotions.
