Cadillac Launches Film Contest with Be Cool

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Cadillac is running a national contest designed to increase consumer awareness of the brand’s new V-Series, and has partnered with the cast of MGM Pictures’ Be Cool to promote it.

The contest, which calls for aspiring filmmakers to submit a five-second film, plays off of the performance cars’ acceleration rate of 0-60 in under five seconds. The program will officially open for submissions on Super Bowl Sunday through the CadillacUnder5.com Web site and will run through Feb. 17.

Be Cool Director F. Gary Gray, along with cast members John Travolta, Christina Milian and Cedric the Entertainer, will judge finalists equally based on creativity, technical ability and popular appeal. Finalists will be awarded in five categories—comedy, drama, mystery, biography and action/adventure.

Four finalists from five categories will be announced in late February with fifteen runner-ups earning a trip to Los Angeles to attend a private director’s cut screening with Gray of Be Cool, the sequel to Get Shorty. In addition, the winner of each category will receive a trip for two to attend the London premiere of Be Cool on March 7. A grand-prize winner will be awarded the best overall film, and will receive a 2005 Cadillac CTS-V and have their five-second film shown in a surprise format.

The contest will be promoted through its Super Bowl, Grammy and Oscar television ads and an online ad blitz that begins Feb. 7. Publics’ Chemistri, Troy, MI, handles.

In a separate development, MGM Studios has teamed up with Fireworks Production to promote Be Cool.

The marketing campaign will consist of peer-to-peer distribution of promotional products by street team members nationwide, guerilla marketing and the production of promotional underground music complication CDs. The film hits theaters nationwide on March 4.
