Brain Quest Offers College Tuition Sweeps

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Workman Publishing is giving parents a helping hand when it comes to college tuition, offering kids the chance to win a $150,000 college scholarship as part of a new sweepstakes offering.

Kids two to 13 in the U.S. and Canada can enter the Brain Quest College Scholarship Sweepstakes by logging on to Brainquest.com and answering a pop-up question that appears on screen. The sweepstakes will award one grand-prize winner $150,000 for college tuition; five runners-up will each receive $10,000 for college tuition.

Workman Publishing, the publisher and owner of Brain Quest, developed the sweepstakes to celebrate the launch of its latest edition of Brain Quest, a learning tool for kids two to 14 that uses a question and answer card format. The new edition, the first for the brand since 1999, reflects current learning standards and features more than 20% of new material.

“We wanted to do something splashy and fun,” said Katie Workman, associate publisher, Workman Publishing said. “The cost of education is something very much on people’s mind. There didn’t seem to be anything better to do than to offer one lucky kids a free ride to college.”

Stickers placed on new editions of Brain Quest carry information informing consumers about the sweepstakes. Internet materials and print ads also support. The sweepstakes runs through Sept. 30.

To further build buzz around the brand and the sweepstakes, 10 teachers will visit book stores across the country as part of a 31-city Brain Quest teacher tour. The tour features a panel of 10 award-winning teachers considered the best educators in the country who helped write and revamp the new material in the latest edition of the card game.

The teachers will serve as spokespeople for the brand at various bookstores across the country, including Hastings Books in Amarillo, TX on June 11, Books-a-Million at the Katy Mills Mall in Katy Mills, TX on June 14. The tour, which also hits Charlotte, NC, Nashville, TN Jacksonville, FL, Cincinnati, OH, Bakersfield, CA and Philadelphia, PA, runs through July 9. Local TV spots and print ads support.
