MTV2 Launches ‘Mother Truckin’ Contest

MTV2 is out with its largest promotion ever, touting the mother of all sweepstakes. One lucky viewer can take home a truckload of prizes worth thousands of dollars, including a 2006 Scion and $25,000, as well as other swag good enough for music stars.

This week, the network hit the road on a four-week mission to load up a big rig full of prizes for the Mother Truckin’ Summer Contest. Musicians, including Fat Joe, Ciara, Black Eyed Peas, My Chemical Romance, The Killers and All American Rejects are giving MTV2 some advice regarding which prizes it should include in the package.

MTV2 has taken over its
T-Minus Hits series to present the Mother Truckin’ Summer countdown during segments in the show, which airs weekdays at 3 p.m. ET/12 p.m. PT. Host Jeremy Haswell showcases the truck as it moves from one location to another adding prizes while visiting summer concerts and celebrity hangouts.

“You’re never sure where it’s going to be next,” said Joe Armenia, VP-music marketing and promotions for MTV, MTV2 and mtvU.

Once the 18-wheeler is filled with 20 prizes, Haswell will deliver the prizes to the winner’s hometown.

The goal of the promotion is to bring the network, which targets younger male consumers, off channel and further connect to viewers. The contest, which launched July 18, runs through Aug. 14. Sponsors include Starbucks Doubleshot, Scion, Nintendo, Cingular and Differin.

“[We want] to be in the face of the viewers and be where they are,” Armenia said. “We want to give them something they really want and associate that [with] MTV2.”

To enter, consumers must complete a form online at
win.MTV2.com. Viewers can enter the contest as many times as they want. MTV2 will award one grand prize winner the mother load of summergear, including an Apple iPod with docking station, an Apple laptop with Mbox, a $1,000 Gap gift certificate, a Vespa LX50, a Panasonic 42-inch plasma HDTV, a hot tub, digital camera and printer, a cell phone and pager combo, Nintendo gaming gear, a home theater system, a 2006 Scion with $250 worth of road trip supplies and a $500 gas card, a year’s supply of Starbucks Double Shot, a seven-day, six night trip to Italy and $25,000.

In the first two days of the contest, MTV2 received 8,000 unique entries, typically the amount it earns for other promotions in a two-week period, Armenia said.

“So far, we are breaking records,” he said.

The sweepstakes is open to consumers 18 and older. Internet materials and e-mail blasts support.
