The first 12.9 million units flew off the shelves in no time. Now 10 million additional units of the “Yo Quiero Taco Bell” plush Chihuahua self-liquidators are about to sell out, according to Irvine, CA-based Taco Bell.

“We’re absolutely thrilled with our partnership with Applause, Inc.,” says Taco Bell spokesperson Lauri Gannon of the company’s Woodland Hills, CA-based supplier.

For the “Yo Quiero Taco Bell” promo, Applause approached the chain with the plush toy idea, produced various designs and then manufactured nearly 23 million talking Chihuahuas – all within two-and-a-half months.

Selling at prices from $2.99 to $3.99, these promotion pieces proved “fast food sales powerhouses,” says Applause senior vp Dave Czerwinski.
