Whole Foods Readies Putumayo Bus Display

Whole Foods Market gets on the bus with Putumayo World Music for a concert and extensive in-store display touting Putumayo CDs.

The Putumayo World Culture Center opens in Whole Foods’ flagship Austin, TX, store on March 3 with an Afro-Latin Party concert in the store, featuring Cuban musician Ricardo Lemvo.

A 12-foot display shaped like a rural Colombian bus will house an MP3 listening station and a TV monitor showing clips from Putumayo concerts and videos.

The display also will showcase Putumayo’s new “lifestyle products,” including a travel journal and artwork from CDs covers. Whole Foods will play Putumayo music on its in-store radio channel. (Local radio station KGSR-FM begins monthly broadcasts of Putumayo World Music Hour on March 2; the program already airs on 120 radio stations nationally.)

Whole Foods COO Walter Robb approached Putumayo CEO Dan Storper to create a special Putumayo display. “It seemed like an ideal moment to present our Putumayo World Culture vision. This is a unique opportunity to present CDs, DVDs, and other culturally themed products together in an international environment,” said Storper in a statement.
