VW Creates Comic MLS Cup Webisodes

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Volkswagen has created a series of comic webisodes as companions to its promotional tour with the Major League Soccer Cup tour.

The series of six webisodes features comedian Mo Collins as an irrepressible, self-proclaimed “number one soccer mom” who has a series of misadventures with several leading MLS players en route to the league championship match in Los Angeles. She’s supposed to be ferrying the Philip F. Anschutz Trophy to the big game in her VW Routan Minivan.

The webisodes can be viewed online. VW staged a series of events in California this week that are part of a real tour with the trophy climaxing with events for MLS fans at The Home Depot Center this weekend.

On Saturday, several MLS players will be signing autographs at The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA, where VW will stage a 7 v 7 soccer tournament. On Sunday morning, VW will stage an event for fans with interactive games and prizes

The webisodes were created for VW by Crispin Porter + Bogusky and will be accompanied by a campaign that includes additional Web and TV creative content.

“Our hope is to expand people’s familiarization with Major League Soccer and the excitement and energy of the sport,” said Tim Ellis, vice president of marketing for Volkswagen of America, in a release.

Information about the “VW Road to MLS Cup” campaign is also available on the Web site.
