Millions Register on FTC’s Do-Not-Call Registry

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

More than 12.5 million telephone numbers have been registered on the Federal Trade Commission’s national Do-Not-Call Registry since the program became available to the American public June 27.

Online registrations were favored over telephone registrations 88% to 12%, the FTC said.

About 7 million numbers were logged last Friday, falling to 4.6 million on Saturday, then to 2 million on Sunday. At its peak on Friday, the system received an average 158 telephone numbers to be entered per second, FTC chairman Timothy J. Muris said in a statement.

The high volume of registrations has caused some glitches, prompting the FTC to offer a list of tips for success registration at its Web site, www.ftc.gov

The FTC expects the total registrants to reach 60 million, including 14 million transferred from state Do-Not-Call lists.
