Discover, Nike, Ocean Spray and Others Plan for All-Star Promos

Discover Card, Nike, Toyota, adidas and Ocean Spray are all players in promotional events scheduled around the WNBA All-Star game next month.

Discover Card will have a very visible presence during the game. Its logo will appear on the fronts of the WNBA jerseys for both All-Star squads—the first time a logo other than the adidas logo has been worn on players’ jerseys.

Leading up to the event, scheduled for July 15 at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC, Discover will hold on-court clinics for kids with WNBA players on July 12. All children in attendance will be invited to the All-Star game.

Children can also get primers on savings and banking on Saturday and Sunday at a “Be Financially Fit” exhibition area outside the Verizon Center.

After the game, the first 300 Discover card holders who show their cards, or apply for one, can gain access to the WNBA All-Star Discover Card Fan Lounge in the Verizon Center’s Dewar’s 12 Clubhouse. There they will be offered free food and a chance to get photos and autographs from WNBA stars.

The promotional package supplements a multi-year pact the WNBA inked with Discover last year. Under terms of the deal, Discover recently released its 
WNBA Team Affinity Cards, featuring logos of the league’s 13 teams.

On another front, a traveling mobile fitness expo, part of the WNBA’s national Be Smart-Be Fit-Be Yourself initiative, will be presented by adidas, Ocean Spray and the Center for Disease Control at an all-day event on July 14 at the former Washington Convention Center site. Participants can try on adidas uniforms and sample Ocean Spray juice drinks and other products.

As part of the WNBA Cares program, Nike will unveil a refurbished basketball court at the Richard England Boys & Girls Club in Washington also on July 14. Toyota will open a WNBA Cares Reading & Learning center at the Robert V. Murray Boys & Girls Club July 13.
