Chivas Offers $200,000 to Next Pair of Traveling Brand Ambassadors

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Chivas Regal has launched a nationwide search for two brand ambassadors that get a combined $200,000 stipend to act as international representatives to travel the world and document their experiences, all in the name of the well-known scotch whisky.

This is the third year the brand has held the search, but has enhanced the program to include a longer time period, a mobile studio and a fatter pay check.

The Chivas Live Studio is a custom-built modern lounge that is hitting the road to host the job search. Applicants can apply there in person by day and be filmed as part of the application process. By night, the studio will host a series of mentoring sessions and musical concerts with artists such as Yerba Buena, Jose Alberto and Atrecipoleados. The studio debuted in New York this week and will then travel to Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, Las Vegas and Chicago, where it will stay for several weeks at each stop.

The two consumers chosen as ambassadors will use the $200,000 ($100,000 each) to identify and travel to global destinations over 12-months (instead of about six months this year) to locate one-of-a-kind experiences that they will then chronicle on an online travelogue at ChivasCircle.com. They are required to identify 50 “tips” or “extraordinary experiences” that offer relevant information in adventure and relaxation. The two will also engage the international and domestic media, host mentoring events and attending exclusive Chivas Life events.

Applications are being accepted through March 30. Six applicant pairs will be selected to travel to Las Vegas to meet with a panel of interviewers, who will select the two winners. The job officially starts in May 2007.

This year’s ambassadors, Bill Faries and Dana Peterson, have documented a number of experiences, including a Burns Night celebration in Scotland, a safari in Africa, a Thai cooking class and a glacier walk in New Zealand. Faries and Peterson each received $50,000 to create and publicize The Chivas Life Guide. During the inaugural ambassadorship in 2004, David Lyman, a reporter and critic for the Detroit Free Press, traveled more than 71,000 mile (PROMO Xtra, Sept. 8, 2005).
