Barnes & Noble Boosts Loyalty With Credit Card

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Barnes & Noble is giving consumers additional ways to earn loyalty points under a new company-branded MasterCard offered through Barclays U.S.

Consumers who belong to the bookstore’s Member Program can apply for the credit card, which offers members savings on in-store purchases and online at BN.com. The Barnes & Noble Member MasterCard gives cardholders a 5% savings on items bought in-store or online on top of the 10% discount members receive under the loyalty program. The 5% discount is applied as a rebate on members’ monthly credit card statements.

In addition, members earn one reward point for every dollar they charge when shopping outside of Barnes & Noble. Once consumers accumulate 2,500 points, they receive a $25 Barnes & Noble gift card. Newly approved members receive a $25 gift card to the store after their first purchase.

“The combination of the existing benefits of our member program, with the additional value provided by the Member MasterCard, will enable our members to save even more when shopping at Barnes & Noble,” said Marie Toulantis, CEO of Barnes & Noble.com, in a statement.

Consumers can apply for the card in store or online at BN.com. The card has no annual fee.

Under the company’s original loyalty program, Barnes & Noble members receive 10% savings on most items in Barnes & Noble stores, online at Barnes & Noble.com, in B. Dalton, Bookstop, Bookstar, Doubleday, Ink Newsstand and Charlesbank bookstores. The yearly fee is $25.
