JVC Dangles Electronics in Retail Sales Program

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

JVC Co. of America, a developer and manufacturer of audio and video products, has launched an online training program that dangles electronic gadgets as prizes for retail sales professionals who take the course.

The program launched Aug. 1 and is available on Cyberscholar.com, an online portal that helps sales people sharpen their skills for selling consumer electronic equipment.

Each month, JVC’s online program covers a variety of sales-related training topics and features new products including its Everio camcorder among other items. Participants are entered into a monthly drawing to win prizes such as the brand’s cameras, camcorders and headphones. Quarterly drawings render HDTVs as prizes.

“The concept of giving prizes is to incent [participants] to come back to the site,” said Mark Boeder, director of marketing at Creative Channel Services (CCS), Culver City, CA, which developed the program. The initiative is even more important as the holiday shopping season approaches, he added.

To spread the word, promotional cards are sent out to retailers and field teams deliver information about the program during store visits to big-box retailers such as Best Buy and Circuit City. Online ads on Web sites where sales professionals go to get product information also support.

Wayne, NJ-based JVC is in the company of a handful of consumer electronic companies (including LG Electronics, Samsung, and Canon) that use the Cyberscholar.com portal to incent retail sales people, Boeder said.
