Ah Choooooooo!

Want to create brand impact? Hand out an item that can be found in most women’s purses, especially at this time of year.

Tissues.

That’s what Five Below, a discount retail chain catering to teens, is doing this holiday season. Starting on Dec. 16, it will distribute 20,000 packets to customers.

In addition to 10 tissues, each package contains a coupon worth $5 on any $15 purchase through February.

“Tissues are useful all year,” says Steve Jacobs, president of AdPack USA, the firm handling the promotion. “It’s the kind of product people buy all the time.”

The effort is the second conducted by AdPack for Five Below. Recently, it distributed 50,000 tissue packs to schools and community organizations in a back-to-school promotion. Each one offered a discount coupon.

“Our main target market is teens,” says Elizabeth Romaine, marketing manager for the 51-store chain. “We’re looking for the most effective way to stand out for our customers.”

The cost? It’s almost as cheap as buying tissues: $5,000 for both campaigns.
