ACTS OF CONTRITION

This tidbit comes from attorney Felix Hofer of Studio Legale Hofer Losch Torricelli, who apprises the PMA Law Bulletin of goings-on in Italy.
Under the headline “Holy Mary Does Not Work for Banks,” Hofer reports that the Italian Jury on Advertising ruled as illegal an ad showing a statue of the Virgin Mary weeping bloody tears (an event that took place some years ago in a small town near Rome) and comparing it to the sufferings of crying depositors who had not taken advantage of the services of a particular bank.
The court cited the Advertising Self-Regulation Code provision that “advertising must not offend religious beliefs of citizens.”
