7-Eleven, Campbell Tie in with Breast Cancer Promos

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

7-Eleven and Campbell Soup Co. are among a number of marketers out with cause-marketing campaigns tying in to National Breast Cancer Awareness Month this month.

Campbell Soup is once again offering four different limited edition pink and white labeled products to support the cause.

The campaign will appear on Campbell’s Chicken Noodle and Tomato condensed soups in Kroger Co. stores nationwide. In addition, V8 100% Vegetable Juice and Swanson chicken broth will feature the cause labeling for the first time during October. These two packages will be available in grocery locations across the country.

Some 11 million units of the products will feature the packaging, John W. Faulkner, a spokesman for Campbell Soup. Co. said. It’s the third year of the initiative.

Campbell has also pledged a $325,000 donation to help support breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment. This year, money will go to http://www.Breastcancer.org and The Kroger Co.’s “Giving Hope a Hand” corporate women’s health initiative, which assists regional breast cancer organizations nationwide. The pledge will bring Campbell’s three-year donation supporting breast cancer to more than $800,000, the company said.

Meanwhile, 7-Eleven is selling ribbon-shaped donuts through October to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The donuts are decorated with pink icing, sprinkles and pink candy ribbons and sell for $1.19 each, with 15 cents from each sale going to Komen. The chain is trying to raise between $25,000 and $50,000 for the national charity.

Stores are also carrying an assortment of pink items to raise funds for various organizations supporting the fight against breast cancer.

“This is an easy, not to mention delicious, way for people to give to this important cause,” Joe Hermes, 7-Eleven’s senior fresh food director, said in a release.

7-Eleven stores will include a special display of refillable, stainless steel 16-ounce mugs with a pink band around the top. The mugs sell for $6.99 with the first hot beverage included, and refills are 99 cents. Pink ribbon magnets, available for $1.99, will also be sold in-store. A portion of sales will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the company said.

Participating stores are also selling pink products from other manufacturers that plan to commit a portion of proceeds to breast cancer charities, including special edition TicTac mints, Hershey Kisses and M&M candies, which have product and/or packaging to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness this month.
