Google’s Revamped Image Search Means Better Click-Through Rates
On Wednesday Google announced an improved Image Search based on feedback from users and webmasters. The revamped product will be rolled out to users over the next few days. The new interface features an in-line panel, which Google says will make the experience “faster, more beautiful, and more reliable.” Users will be able to flip through images using their keyboard.
Google lays out four takeaways for webmasters:
1) Image metadata is displayed underneath the image in the search results instead of redirecting users to a separate landing page.
2) The title of the page hosting the image, the domain name it originates from and the image size are all displayed next to the image.
3) The source page will no longer load in the iframe in the background of the image detail view, which will make for a faster experience and lessened loads for the source site’s servers.
4) The domain name is now clickable, and Google added a button that sends users to the page where the image is hosted. “In our tests, we’ve seen a net increase in the average click-through rate to the hosting website.”
The main point here is that how you name and tag your images is now even more important, especially if your business and its products or services are more visual in nature.
