Company Offers Time in a Mug

TimeMug, LLC an emerging coffee tumbler manufacturer, will soon give those on the run “time” to go with their favorite morning drink.

The Bridgeport, CT-based company has added a timepiece to the traditional coffee mug, opening the doors to marketing tie-ins to the coffee industry and other businesses looking to promote time elements.

The 16-ounce tumbler features a stainless steel interior and a plastic outer shell. The mug’s battery-operated timepiece can be removed, allowing marketers to hide messages, sweepstakes prizes or giveaways within the product.

The mug can be designed in any color for orders of 5,000 or more. Mugs are available in clear, blue, purple, green and red for orders fewer than 5,000. TimeMug, LLC can alter the tumbler and timepiece to fit customers’ exclusive designs. Pricing and shipping information are available online at Timemug.com.

TimeMug Owner Brian Meehan said he created the tumbler to give marketers and consumers something “different” from an ordinary mug.

“Coffee mugs have been around forever,” Meehan said. “This mug is unique because of its design and its functionality.”

TimeMug plans to launch its innovative time-telling ware at Coffee Fest’s tradeshow Feb. 25-27 in Chicago. Meehan predicted the TimeMug would be the next craze to hit the coffee industry this year. TimeMugs will hit the retail market mid-year, he said.

Coffee Fest already agreed to use the mug to promote its largest show in Seattle, which takes place Oct. 28-30. To thank show attendees, Coffee Fest will distribute free TimeMugs to the first 1,500 people at the show, Meehan said. The mugs will feature the Coffee Fest logo and a specialized slogan, “Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule,” he said. Coffee Fest also plans to print information regarding its 2006 trade shows onto the Time Mug gift boxes.

“This seemed to be a neat piece for promotion,” Meehan said of the product. “We hope it will be used to help clients become a little more creative. We’re excited about it.”

The coffee industry isn’t the only market TimeMug is targeting. Meehan wants to tie-in to other businesses looking to promote “time” itself, including shipping companies, the airline and automobile industries and specialty gift and gadget shops. The company motto says it all—”It’s just a matter of time.”
