Businesses Wiling to Pay for Additional Twitter Functionality

Posted on

A recent WebBizIdeas.com poll found that more than a quarter of Twitter business users would be willing to pony up some extra cash for additional business functionality on the social networking site.

The poll of 850 business users on Twitter found that 26 percent said “yes” to the question, “Would you pay for business functionality on Twitter?” Meanwhile, 31 percent said “no” and 43 percent were “unsure.”

Of the respondents who said “yes,” 38 percent would be willing to pay $0-$20 for additional business functionality on Twitter, while 31 percent would be willing to pay $20-$50, and 23 percent would be willing to pay $50-$100.

Eight percent said they would be willing to shell out $100 or more for added business functionality.

Respondents were then posed the question, “Which advertising options would provide the most value to you?”

The vast majority, or 68 percent, said price-per-action/click/impression would be of the most value to them, while 21 percent said an increase in followers and 11 percent were unsure.

In response to the question “What is your estimated concentration of potential customers among your followers?” 31 percent said 0%-20%, 13 percent said 20%-40%, 16 percent said 40%-60%, 16 percent said 60%-80% and 24 percent said 80%-100%.

The last question was “Would you pay for analytics alone?” A whopping 89 percent said “no,” while 8 percent said “yes” and 3 percent were “unsure.”

The 8 percent who would be willing to pay for analytics alone could make for a “simple method of creating a sizeable revenue stream,” the company’s report notes.

“Twitter should monetize through promoting suggested users throughout their site and possibly in the feed,” said Jeff Foster, co-founder and SEO specialist at WebBizIdeas.com. “Businesses could bid on a “price per follower” basis, choosing which location, age group or keywords they wish to target. Like Google and Adwords, this business model will interweave perfectly with their core product.”
