Office Linebacker Gets Political

Posted on by Tim Parry

If you are a pitchman for a particular brand – even for only 15-minutes of fame – does that brand carry over when you’re not pitching that particular company?

We’ll see what this means for Reebok, whose one-time spokescharacter Terry Tate: Office Linebacker is telling people to get out an vote (and sacking Sarah Palin).

Three videos were recently released on returnofterrytate.com, and the Reebok logo has been covered over on Terry Tate’s jersey. But I can see though familiar with the Reebok campaign connecting the apparel maker and Barrack Obama together.

The message is to vote Nov. 4. But with the webisodes being drawn out, and two having Palin get sacked by Tate during Katie Kouric interviews, the average viewer is going to see these videos as pro-Obama.

So what do you think? Will Reebok take some heat for a campaign that isn’t it’s own? Or will the latest rebirth of Terry Tate fade faster than a couple of mavericks losing ground to That Guy?
