Never Mind Epsilon, Twitter Can Cause A Security Breach

Posted on by Tim Parry

twitter-egg-icon.jpgAre you following the
tweets about
Epsilon’s major email security breach? If you are, be careful what you click on.

I guess if your email address isn’t in the hands of hackers because of the email security breach March 30 at Epsilon, it will be if you click on what may appear to be tweeted articles about the security breaches. Isn’t that what we call “irony?”

Here’s some advice then:

  • If you see a bit.ly link, and it’s from someone with that egg logo above and to the right, there’s a good chance it’s a phisher.
  • If the tweet contains the word “Epsilon,” with or without a hashtag, and the tweet has nothing to do with Epsilon, it’s either a phisher or someone hoping to get 15 minutes of fame by getting lost in a sea of trending tweets.
  • When in doubt, hover over the link and see what it REALLY is. If you still don’t trust the URL, don’t click!
