Supervalu Readies Management for Albertsons Acquisition
Supervalu has set a new structure and management team to take effect after its acquisition of Albertson’s, expected to close in June.
Supervalu will set up three retailing divisions, divided by geographic regions, and establish a single merchandising and marketing division to serve the three units. Top posts go to execs from both Supervalu and Albertsons.
Duncan Mac Naughton will run the corporate-wide marketing and merchandising division as executive VP-merchandising and marketing. He has been executive VP-Merchandising at Albertsons.
Pete Van Helden becomes senior VP-president of Retail West, overseeing the Albertsons brand operations in southern California, Nevada and the current Intermountain West division. Van Helden has been Albertsons’ president-CEO of California Food.
Supervalu veteran John Hooley becomes executive VP-president of Retail East, overseeing operations of Acme, bigg’s, Farm Fresh, Scott’s, Shaw’s and Shoppers.
Kevin Tripp becomes executive VP-president of Retail Midwest, overseeing operations of Cub Foods, Hornbacher’s, Jewel and Shop ‘n Save, as well as company-wide pharmacy operations. Tripp has been Albertsons’ executive VP-Drug Operations and president of Albertsons’ Drug Store division.
Mike Jackson becomes Supervalu president-COO overseeing the Save-A-Lot chain, supply chain services and Minneapolis-based Supervalu’s Enterprise Office.
Jeff Noddle stays at the helm as Supervalu Chairman-CEO.
