Lou Reed Bio on Home Video

Just months after it aired on PBS, the only documentary of rocker Lou Reed will hit home video on July 28. Fox Lorber is releasing the 75-minute video with a free $5 phonecard offer.

The home entertainment company is owned by WinStar Telecommunications and the parent company will provide a coupon for the free phonecard in every video. The video will also include 15 minutes not shown on PBS.

The company is just starting to release a number of music videos, says Michael Olivieri, president of the home video division, Fox Lorber. It released Tina Turner’s live Amsterdam concert last year, and will release videos from Joe Cocker and jazz instrumentalist Keiko Matsui this year.

Because the video company is owned by a telecommunications company, it can offer consumers real savings through the phonecard at a minimum cost, says Olivieri. The company is also considering a tie-in with Reed’s new live concert CD on Warner Bros. Records.
