Google, Electronic Arts Win December

According to the most recent figures released by Nielsen Online, Google was the top parent company while Electronic Arts Online was the stickiest brand online in December 2008.

Google attracted 135.3 million users in the U.S. during the month, each spending an average of 2:02:03 on its sites. Both figures were unchanged from November.

Microsoft finished second in December with 125.8 million users, each spending an average of 2:24:00 on its sites. Both figures reflected slight declines from the previous month.

Yahoo! was third with 117.8 million users, each spending an average of 3:11:49 on its sites. In November, Yahoo! attracted 119.1 million users who spent an average of 3:16:44 on its sites.

AOL was fourth, attracting 86.1 million users in December, each spending an average of 3:41:02 on its Web properties. Both figures were slightly lower compared to November.

News Corp. Online was fifth with 78.1 million users in December, while eBay was sixth with 68.3 million users.

Amazon.com, InterActiveCorp, Apple Computer and Facebook rounded out the list of the top 10 parent companies.

Facebook climbed the list and leapfrogged the Wikimedia Foundation and the New York Times to claim the 10th spot. The popular social network finished 15th in November.

Electronic Arts Online was the stickiest Web brand in December, attracting 13.5 million users who spent an average of 8:26:57 on its site.

Fanfiction.net was second, with its 1.0 million users spending an average of 5:32:18 on its site, while FullTiltPoker.com’s 1.1 million users spent an average of 4:59:42 on its Web property in December.

PokerStars.com, Juno Online Services, AOL Media Network, Yahoo!, RealVNC, Videolan and Slingo rounded out the top 10 list of the stickiest Web brands in December.
