“Dexter” Debut Ties into Bloody Good Lord & Taylor Fashion

If your personal style isn’t well suited to the retro fashions that Banana Republic and New York’s Bloomingdale’s have been promoting with the cable hit “Mad Men,” you can always opt for the “chop chic” Miami look associated with Showtime’s “Dexter,” a series about a serial killer passing as a forensic homicide expert.

Retailer Lord & Taylor and Details magazine are running a cross-promotion with Showtime to mark the debut of the fourth season of “Dexter.” The “Killer Fashion” promotion will give one winner round-trip airfare for two to Miami, a three-night hotel stay, and a $1,000 shopping spree at the Lord & Taylor store there, including the services of a personal shopper.

Contestants can enter at the “Killer Fashion” Web site by providing a name, address and e-mail contact information. They can also submit an entry in person at the Lord & Taylor New York store on Fifth Avenue.

That New York store has also been tying window displays and in-store promotions to the latest season of “Dexter,” distributing gift bags to the first 250 of those who arrived to see the windows unveiled on September 24, three days before the season premiere. And through October 11, Fifth Avenue in-store shoppers who spend $200 or more on men’s clothing and accessories (except for fragrances, fashion watches and jewelry) will receive a boxed DVD set of the third “Dexter’ season.

The “Killer Fashion” Web site also contains a six-page insert of “Dexter”-themed men’s fashion running in October Details magazine, together with behind the scenes video and slides of that photo shoot.

And much like “Mad Men,” the Showtime cable channel is also offering a promotional sweepstakes that features as its grand prize a walk-on role in the TV show’s next season. “Mad Men” fans had to stop in at a Banana Republic store to get an access code. In this case, contestants can get that code either by purchasing and downloading a new “Dexter” iPhone game or by buying show-themed merchandise from the Showtime Comic-Con store. Either purchase must be made by December 31 and entries filed by January 7, 2010.

They can then enter the access code, along with their a-mail address, at the Dexter Web site. Contestants can also use postcard submission to enter the game without a purchase.

Besides the grand prize, one first-prize winner will fly to Los Angeles and have lunch with one of the show’s writers. The game also offers 200 instant-win prizes ranging from Season 3 boxed sets to T-shirts and action figures.
