I Voted Today… Where’s My Donut?

Posted on by Tim Parry

Hot Vote NowCome on, Krispy Kreme! I know you’re 20 miles away from my home, and my job is 20 miles in the other direction. But I voted this morning and I’m soooo hungry! In fact, I know nothing about politics, I just want that free donut!

OK, That last part was made up. But as PROMO reports today, voting (or just saying you did) can get you some free stuff. I mean, if you proudly voted for Bush back in 2004 and got a “GWB” tramp-stamp, there’s even a place you can get that removed for free!

It’s being projected that 90% of those registered to vote will cast a ballot today, or already have. So these incentives – like Ben & Jerry’s classic free scoop promo – aren’t necessary to promote democracy (but are still oh-so-fun and fattening!). But I can see the troubled chains like Starbucks and Krispy Kreme – with nothing new to offer – using an important national election to gain some consumer awareness. Even if I do go for a free Starbucks or Krispy Kreme today, I’ll be back at Dunkin’ Donuts tomorrow.

Funny story from the hour-plus long voting line in Bridgeport, CT this morning: On line, I was handed a business card from Painter’s Supply, giving me 20% off any order of $25 or more TODAY ONLY. Well, I do have a room I want to re-paint, but I don’t want to make an irrational decision. I mean, do I go with a brownish hue to match the back bedrooms, or stick with a neutral white to enhance the living room? Or so I want to get a stain for the wanescoating in the living room, or finally start that wallpapering job in the kitchen and dining room that I was going to start a year before cervical fusion surgery was needed?

Sounds like that’s a promo that’s going to flop.
