A Few Tips for Facebook Marketing

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

On Facebook, what works, and what doesn’t work is still far from conclusive, however, there are several areas of distinction that have become clear. The most successful brands are including promotional tactics in their social media strategy to “surprise and delight” fans throughout the year. Integration of promotions in Facebook has proven to be extremely effective in driving engagement and the growth of followers.

Keep these five tips in mind:

Make the connection Relevancy improves promotions by 25% vs. a generic campaign. Facebook offers a number of tools to personalize messages based on consumer profiles and permissions. Take advantage of these tools.

Privacy Make sure developers keep up to date on Facebook’s privacy guidelines. Facebook has automated shut downs to halt promotions that go afoul of its rules. You may find yourself wondering why your promotion isn’t working. The first place to look is privacy settings.

Thick skin Facebook fans are highly cynical with a propensity for quick-trigger reactions. Make sure you have “the stomach” as a company to hear “you suck.” Of course, you will be listening and monitoring the chatter, but know that you will never please everyone.

Don’t be a bore Stay fresh and be spontaneous. Add value to what you provide on Facebook so your followers have reasons to continue to engage and follow you. You many consider virtual gifts as a reward for actions taken.

Measure, Measure, Measure Leverage the power of real-time insights and analytics to optimize and track success. Understanding how users participate in a promotion ensures improved success for future promotions. If you collect data, you must use a third party application. In most cases, Facebook won’t allow you to direct message people that have “liked” you so third-party data collection is key.
