Bottoms Up

Americans say they’re hitting the bottle more often than they should, according to a Gallup Poll. Sixty-four percent of Americans say they drink alcoholic beverages at least occasionally. Of those, 26 percent say they sometimes drink more than necessary — up from 24 percent in 1999 and 22 percent in 1997. Of those aged 18 to 29, 35 percent say they sometimes drink more than they should, compared with 18 percent of those aged 30 to 49, and just six percent of those over 50. However, there are teetotalers among us: 36 percent of Americans say they don’t imbibe at all.
