$150,000 Can Buy A Lot Of Clothes

Posted on by Tim Parry

Have you ever tried to buy $150,000 worth of clothing? I mean, that’s about how much it costs to outfit the entire New York Giants organization… or a vice presidential candidate.

How the Republican National Committee was able to run up that kind of tab had to be tiresome. Unless of course the hubby and the kids got something out of it, too. I tried shopping for Palin at Saks.com while eating lunch today, and I could only get to a little under $12,000 before losing my mind.

But here’s my shopping cart. You may have to hit refresh to see what I picked out, and I may have to clear my private settings so I don’t start getting banners for women’s clothiers on my Yahoo mail page.

Now thins is Saks, and I couldn’t jack up that kind of bill. Imagine if the RNC went to Target.com or JCPenney.com instead, places where Middle America are shopping?

Heck, Michelle Obama buys her clothes at J. Crew.

You know, $150,000, on the other hand, could help out some struggling multichannel merchants. Or it could buy… I don’t know, I Googled “$150,000” and the first 39 items had to do with the Governor’s New Clothes.

But maybe, just maybe, that $150,000 could have helped keep a few homeowners from foreclosure.

Too bad that shopping spree didn’t help stimulate the economy…

Here’s my challenge to you. Rack up a $150,000 shopping cart and send me the link. I want to see what you can buy. I’m going to tick off some e-commerce directors, and cause some phantom demand… but it’s one heck of a challenge.
