Four Convicted in LA Telemarketing Scam

Four people were convicted in Los Angeles on Tuesday of telemarketing fraud.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Kirk Kuykendoll, 53, of Thousand Oaks, CA; Henry Perrin, 60, of Van Nuys, CA; and Sharman Walker, 49, and Anthony Durant, 43, both of Canoga Park, CA, were found guilty after a six-week trial in Los Angeles federal court. They will be sentenced Aug. 12.

The four worked on commission as telemarketers selling a private stock offering on behalf of Woodland Hills-based Assured International Inc., which the Times reported they falsely claimed manufactured latex gloves and condom. In the scam, potential investors were told they could double their money because Assured would soon go public.

The company raked in nearly $1.4 million during an 18-month period in 1998 and 1999, according to prosecutors. Assured
