Wal-Mart to Host Tracy Byrd Concert

Wal-Mart Stores is promising a free concert for the town that raises the most money for Children’s Miracle Network this month.

Country singer Tracy Byrd will perform in the winning city later this year as part of Wal-Mart’s push to raise $10 million for the children’s hospital support group.

Shoppers donate when they buy a paper “miracle balloon” for $1 at Wal-Mart’s stores (including Neighborhood Market and Sam’s Club stores). The town whose stores sell the most balloons get a visit from Byrd.

Wal-Mart has been using a musical tour to support the fundraiser all month. It tied in with XM Radio for the XMKids Traveling Roadshow, a monthlong tour with stops at Wal-Mart stores for live-remote broadcasts and concerts for kids.

Meanwhile, country singers LeAnn Rimes and Marie Osmond, and Miss America Lauren Nelson are making store appearances to drum up donations. In-store events on May 31 will mark the end of the campaign.

This is the 20th year that Wal-Mart has conducted a May fundraiser for Children’s Miracle Network.
