USPS to Reopen Anthrax-Tainted Center Next Year

Early next year, the U.S. Postal Service expects reopen its distribution center in Hamilton, NJ that was closed down in Oct. 2001 due to anthrax contamination, according to wire service reports.

Trenton Postmaster Joseph Sautello said the mail distribution center is now expected to reopen for business early next year, slightly later than previously projected. USPS officials had hoped the 300,000-square-foot building could be open by the fall.

Five people who came into contact with anthrax letters died and 17 others were sickened nationwide. There were five confirmed anthrax infections and two suspected cases in New Jersey, but no fatalities.
