If online buzz determined the Academy Awards, “Avatar” would have no trouble winning for Best Picture, according to Nielsen.
“Avatar,” James Cameron’s brainchild, is the recipient of more than a quarter of all the online buzz surrounding Oscar-nominated films. “The Hurt Locker” is second with a bit more than 15 percent, followed by “Up in the Air” with more than 10 percent and “An Education” with more than 10 percent.
“The Blind Side,” “District 9,” “A Serious Man,” “Precious,” “Up” and “Inglorious Basterds” round out the list, in that order, according to Nielsen.
For the Actor in a Leading Role category, Jeff Bridges leads the way with more than 25 percent of the buzz, followed by Colin Firth, George Clooney, Jeremy Renner and Morgan Freeman, in that order.
For the Actress in a Leading Role category, Sandra Bullock leads the way with slightly more than a quarter of the online buzz, followed by Carey Mulligan, Meryl Streep, Gabourey Sidibe and Helen Mirren.
According to BetUS.com, “The Hurt Locker” (2/3) and “Avatar” (11/1) have the best odds in the Best Picture category, while “The Blind Side” (80/1), “Up” (80/1), “A Serious Man” (100/1), “An Education” (100/1) and “District 9” (100/1) are all long shots.
Kathryn Bigelow (“The Hurt Locker”) has 1/5 odds for the Best Director award, followed by her ex-husband, Cameron, with 5/2 odds.
Jeff Bridges (1/8) and George Clooney (6/1) have the best shots at the Actor in a Leading Role award, while Sandra Bullock (5/9) and Meryl Streep (8/5) have the best chances at winning the Actress in a Leading Role category.
Christopher Waltz has 0/1 odds to win the Actor in a Supporting Role category, while Monique has 1/20 odds to win the Actress in a Supporting Role award, according to BetUS.com.
“Avatar” (1/5) is the favorite to win more awards than “The Hurt Locker” (3/1), while black (2/1) is the most likely color of the best actress’ dress on Sunday.
