MCDONALD’S EUROPE:

announced the appointment of Kay Napier as senior VP/CMO. Since joining the company in Nov. 2002, Napier has worked closely with McDonald’s U.S.A.’s senior VP-marketing, Bill Lamar on the premium salad launch, the “Go Active” Adult Happy Meal and other marketing initiatives. Prior to joining McDonald’s, Napier served as Procter & Gamble’s VP of North America pharmaceuticals and corporate women’s health & vitality.

ALLIED DOMECQ SPIRITS, NORTH AMERICA: has appointed an external independent advertising review board to ensure that it is marketing its beverage alcohol brands responsibly to consumers of legal drinking age.

CARLSON RESTAURANTS WORLDWIDE: teams with Atkins Nutritionals, Inc. to put Atkins-approved low-carb items on T.G.I. Friday’s menus in 520 restaurants. New items began Dec. 9 and include Tuna Salad Wraps, Sizzling Chicken with Broccoli, Garlic Chicken with Mixed Vegetables, Char-grilled Salmon Filet and Sizzling NY Strip with Bleu Cheese.

SMINT: re-upped to sponsor an award category in the Dance Star USA—The American Dance Music Awards in March 2004. The mint brand, marketed by Spanish confectioner Chupa Chups, sponsors the “Best Club Venue” award for the second time. Dance Star USA honors club and dance music; it began in 2001. The Miami-based awards show seeks additional sponsors.
