MTV Brings Reality TV to Viewers Via Competition

MTV is giving viewers their own shot at 15 minutes of fame via a new reality show that lets consumers vote by text message or online for their favorite wanna-be reality star for a chance to win their own six-episode series.

The Reality Show details the lives of ordinary consumers who are vying for a chance to star in a six-episode MTV series. During each show, comedian Andy Dick rolls out mini-episodes from contestants’ lives before a pool of in-studio reality-TV celebrities. At the end of the each episode, consumers have 48 hours to vote on which show they want to see cancelled. The Reality Show premieres at 10:30 tonight on MTV.

Viewers can vote online at MTV.com or by sending a text message on a Virgin Mobile phone. The loser will be sent home during the top of the following week’s episode. Remaining contestants will move on to the next round, where viewers can see more footage from their lives,
