Mobile Content Provider Settles Florida Charges

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Mobile Messenger America Inc. will pay $1 million to settle allegations by Florida Attorney General Bill Mccollum that it improperly billed consumers for mobile content.

In addition, the company must disclose the price and terms of purchase on all online transaction screens.

According to McCollum’s office, Mobile Messenger failed to describe the price and terms of services online for its subscription text products for mobile phones.

McCollum’s office has conducted a year-long investigation of mobile content marketing by multiple firms. It found that thousands of Florida consumers have received mobile content charges for downloads they never requested, it said.

“Every time mobile content is purchased, the person making that purchase deserves to know what he or she is getting and will ultimately end up paying,” McCollum said in a statement.
