Marketing Service Revenue Drop Damps ChoicePoint’s Third Quarter

ChoicePoint Inc. saw its third-quarter revenue rise from $178.8 million to $189.1 million, But its net income dropped from $31.3 million to $29.1 million from a year ago. The quarter ended Sept. 30.

Within its divisions, Marketing Services saw an 18% drop, from $27.5 million to $22.6 million, lending to the overall income decline. Business and Government Services rose from $79.3 million to 87.1 million, and Insurance Services increased from $70.5 million to $78.1 million.

“The softness in our Marketing Services segment and the cycling of the 2002 homeland security successes tempered our comparable operating results for the quarter, and will also impact our fourth-quarter comparables,” said Steven W. Surbaugh, the Alpharetta, GA-based firm’s CFO in a statement.
