E-mail authentication is a place to start fighting spam, but don’t stop there. That was the main takeaway from a summit meeting of some 500 e-mail service providers (ESPs), ISPs, e-mail tech vendors and e-marketers held in New York on Tuesday.
The meeting was sponsored by a large roster of e-mail industry players, but Microsoft was undoubtedly a prime mover in convening the gathering. The Redmond, WA-based giant has long backed an authentication platform called Sender ID and last month began rolling that standard into its MSN Hotmail e-mail system, serving some 40 million registered users worldwide.
