Jack Morton Production Under Fire

Jack Morton Worldwide is not talking about the complaint received by the Federal Communications Commission over its production of the Olympic Games’ Opening Ceremony last summer.

At least one person who watched the show, broadcast by NBC, filed an indecency complaint last week, according to published reports.

But while New York City-based Jack Morton Worldwide declined comment on the complaint, company CEO Josh McCall told PROMO in an unrelated interview that, “In the case of Athens we spent the 20 months leading up to the ceremonies exploring every possible variation, every risk and its repercussion. Ultimately everything went off without a hitch…”

The ceremony included the ancient God of Love, Eros, flying above two lovers dancing and playing in the water. There was also a depiction of a pregnant woman, whose belly glowed, and Greek nude male statues.

Though the FCC has not said whether or not it would investigate the complaint, the Associated Press reported that NBC has turned over tapes of the opening ceremony for review. A person who answered the phone at NBC Sports VP Mike McCarley’s office said he would have no comment.

Calls to the FCC were not returned.
