This week the House is expected to give final approval to legislation capping nonprofit postage rates at 40% below the U.S. Postal Service’s commercial rates and 5% below its first class, periodicals and Standard B rates.
Last Friday the measure was approved by the Senate.
In addition to capping nonprofit rates, the legislation makes technical corrections to the way the USPS sets its rates for the reduced-rate mailings of charities, religious organizations and other nonprofit mailers.
The legislation was jointly sponsored by Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-PA) and Senator Thad Cochran (R-MS).
