The History Channel and New York City are running a national sweepstakes to tout the new NYC Heritage Tourism Center that opened last week.
The center is part of The History Channel’s $19.5 million sponsorship of New York City tourism efforts (Xtra July 28). The Passport to NYC History sweeps dangles five grand-prize packages of a three-day holiday, including a private heritage trolley tour; e free passes to historic sites throughout the city (via The History Channel New York CityPass); tickets to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular with a behind-the-scenes tour; and a private lunch at Fraunces Tavern. The sweeps runs through August.
The CityPass, a booklet of admission discounts to six attractions and several historic sites across the city, will be available to tourists. Five percent of CityPass sales go to New York City Preservation.
Meanwhile, The History Channel will air three promotional spots touting the tourism center and the city to 88 million households, and run programs highlighting city landmarks— part of the $15 million in airtime that The History Channel will donate over three years as part of its sponsorship.
