The U.S. District Court for District of Georgia scheduled an Aug. 1 preliminary injunction hearing, after issuing a temporary restraining order on July 18 that halted a business opportunity healthcare-related promotion advertised on Christian television and radio stations.
According to a complaint from the Federal Trade Commission, former preacher Jeffrey W. McClain and his two sons failed to provide required statement and earnings disclosures for franchise businesses. The FTC alleged that the business model promoted would violate state and federal law and subject participants to criminal or civil monetary penalties.
The temporary restraining order banned McClain and his sons for selling a healthcare business opportunity promising consumers millions of dollars if they participated in a network of Medicaid providers. It also shut down a telemarketing center operated by the defendants in Marietta, GA.
